Better Safe International are a Cheshire based manufacturer of height safety solutions and safety equipment. https://bettersafeinternational.com/
They needed support and help to gain ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 certification to a very tight timescale.
Steve Jervis from BetterSafe International explains: “At the same time as moving into a brand-new office, a new client needed us to have the ISO9001(quality), ISO14001(environment) and ISO45001(health and safety) standards within a very specific timeline – so you can imagine we were under pressure.
“Originally the deadline was September but that was moved to the end of May so we needed to move very quickly and find a company we could trust to help us achieve the certification. Thankfully, Eaglet Business Systems were recommended to me by a health and safety group I work with and I’m so glad they did.
“It normally takes six months to achieve the standards we needed to, our timescale was four weeks, and we were pretty much starting from scratch. Our ISO Consultant Wayne worked with us pull together all the information we had on our processes, which was files and files of information built up over time into one single Integrated Management System covering the three ISO standards we need.
“In previous roles elsewhere, I’d worked with companies to achieve ISO certification and it had always been a real burden and a problematic process; with Eaglet it was the absolute opposite. Wayne and his team came onsite and made it simple. They worked with us to show us what to do and how to do it and as a result we got the ISO certification(s) to the timescale we needed,” Steve added.
He said: “They’re good fun with, highly professional and brilliant at what they do, I would totally recommend them, without question.”

The tradeshow will be their first of 2022 and only their second face to face event since Covid restrictions lifted.
EBS provides first class consulting, auditing and training in Standards including ISO9001 (Quality), ISO14001 (Environmental), ISO22301 (Business Continuity), ISO27001 (Information Security) and ISO45001 (Health and Safety).
Since the company was founded, it has helped companies to gain or maintain ISO accreditation more than 1355 times.
ISOAIMS is a software solution designed by the Eaglet team to help businesses manage their ISO systems. It’s easy, straightforward, intuitive, quick and eliminates the need for a paper-based system.
Both companies are owned and run by husband and wife team Jo and Wayne Pearce.
Wayne, who has more 20 years’ experience in the International Business Standards Industry said: “It’s been so long since we’ve been able to attend a face to face trade show. We’re really looking forward to attending such a big event, showcasing what we do and meeting other likeminded businesses.
He added: “ISO certified management systems can really help businesses. Essentially if they’re going through a procurement process to win new contracts, one of the first things companies look for is whether bidders have quality management systems in place. If they haven’t they can be ruled out from the start so it can make the difference between winning the business and not. We can’t wait to show Expo visitors how we can support their businesses.”
NLT electrical services were all set to start ISO9001 with Eaglet just as COVID-19 Lockdown was announced in England. Unable to meet face to face, Wayne took to Zoom and successfully managed to digitally guide NLT through their ISO journey.
Here’s what they had to say:
Zoe Wheeler is the Managing Director of NLT Electrical. They’ve recently successfully gained ISO 9001 UKAS Accreditation.
She said: “We started the ISO process some time ago, but we were originally using a consultant who literally gave us loads of templates, the software and essentially left us to it. For someone who’s never done ISO before it was really overwhelming, and that approach just didn’t work for us.
“We then bought Wayne Pearce in from Eaglet Business Systems and the difference was immeasurable. He was so professional, understanding and really laid back which helped us massively. Obviously because of Covid-19 we couldn’t meet face to face, so we’ve done everything via Zoom and I’m absolutely delighted that we gained accreditation with no major or minor nonconformities which is something we’re really proud of.
“It was a personal target of mine to achieve the status, so I am genuinely pleased. For the business it means we get to stand out from our competition as not many electrical companies have accreditation so I am really hopeful that it will lead to us winning even bigger contracts.
Zoe added: “Eaglet were fantastic to work with. Wayne was patient, calm and always on hand to help us make sense of things, nothing was ever too much trouble and I can’t recommend them highly enough.”
Hello all
Following the update from PM Boris Johnson on Sunday 10th May 2020, the slight relaxing of lockdown restrictions and the learnings that the directors of Eaglet Business Systems have gained since lockdown commenced we would like to give our updated statement of intent as follows:
We have successfully continued our operations and since shutdown have successfully seen 5 clients pass their recertification / surveillance visits and had no adverse effects. Therefore we can confidently state that we are able to work remotely and intend to continue to do so for our client’s safety, our safety and do our little bit in keeping the “R” rate below 1.
Following UKAS (our regulatory body) advice we will only conduct site visits where the integrity of the audit will be compromised by not being there in person. When we do go on site social distancing will be adhered to and we will come with full PPE including a face mask. When a site visit is required we will fully liaise with clients before the visit to agree a visit plan to minimise disruption to all.
Take care and stay safe,
Wayne & Jo Pearce
Hello!
Hands up if you are working from home? I can’t see you, but I suspect most of you just put your hands up?
Weird, isn’t it?
Here at EBS, Jo normally spends most of her working week at our offices, and I am mainly at clients’ sites. We are now side by side in the former bedroom-turned-office / study room. With our teenage daughter. And the cats.
I think it is fair to say that this change is ‘interesting’. I (very fairly) get the study when I am on a client call and we are fortunate to have laptops and enough space that we all don’t have to be here all at the same time.
We have had to learn to adapt as I suspect that you have too. Last week we analysed each of our service offerings and worked out that we could do between 2/3 and 4/5 of it remotely. We also learned to use video conferencing and screen sharing software to be able to operate effectively.
I have no idea what percentage of your work you can do remotely, but think about it from a time, money and environmental perspective. I can save up to 3 hours a day when I am not on the road. Last year I did about 15,000 business miles and caused 15,000 miles of emissions and pollution.
Either way, looking to the future, EBS will offer a better service to our clients whilst travelling less and maybe saving the planet a little bit. I hope you can do too.
Jo and I are having a few days off over the Easter break, enjoying a bit of a staycation! We hope you all have a peaceful and healthy Easter and we would like to thank all the NHS workers, care workers, rubbish collectors, delivery drivers and everybody out there ensuring that our Country continues to run during this national crisis.
Take care, wash your hands, stay safe and stay at home.
Jo & Wayne Pearce (& the cat!) x
Hello!
One of the key service offerings of EBS is consultancy / coaching, management and audits of a Business Continuity Management System complaint to ISO22301:2012.
We are aware that the 2019 version of this standard was released in October 2019, but no external certification body is ready yet to certify you.
But what is Business Continuity?
Well, put simply it is a series of steps a business can take to identify, assess and manage any risks it may have that could make trading difficult in the event of an incident. Usually this means issues with People, Premises, Processes, Products/Services or IT.
I think we can add ‘Global Pandemic’ to that list, don’t you?
The challenge to businesses, and governments is that we are in unprecedented times. Historically we may have planned for the loss of key employees (People), a fire or similar to prevent use of our premises, a break down in working processes or practices, a loss of a key product or service or the recall of one of our own products. We will all have suffered the loss of some form of IT in the past – usually down to user error, known as PICNIC (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer) here at EBS.
However, none of us have been in a pandemic before where we can’t engage with our people, can’t get to the office, have significant interruptions in the supply or purchasing chain and are learning new IT systems like video-conferencing software. Equally the uncertainty for many organisations is financial – namely cash-flow. How can we financially get through the next few months?
My father was an accountant and would often say ‘Turnover is Vanity, Profit is Sanity, Cashflow is king’ and also ‘if your OUTGO, exceeds you INCOME, then you UPKEEP will be your DOWNFALL’.
Wise words indeed. And what we all need to be doing now.
How can you reduce your expenditure whilst maximising your income?
In the UK we can reduce costs by furloughing (temporarily grant a leave of absence) employees who will get 80% of their salary. The same applies to self employed workers. However, some of these payments may not be actually paid until June, leaving us up to three month’s worth of cash-flow to cover, albeit at lower rates.
Possible ways to increase income is to apply of any government or local authority grant you may be eligible to. I won’t go into any more details as there are lots of other websites available with up to date information and my words may well be out of date by the time you read this.
Other Options?
What else can you do to reduce costs – well perhaps speak to any financing companies you pay to – such as loans, overdrafts, leases etc and request a payment holiday, or deferred payment. All high street banks ‘SHOULD’ be accommodating so lets see.
To make more income, are there any ways that you can digitise or streamline your product or service. Can you diversify into ‘critical’ market sectors? A business contact of mine who runs a distillery is rushed off his feet producing NHS approved hand sanitisers.
The Future.
This pandemic WILL end, and when it does, please be aware of future opportunities and position yourself to excelling once we are out and about again.
Until them, take care, wash your hands, stay safe and stay at home.
Hello world! I suspect that you’re still out there, but I write this from our recently cleared out dumping ground / spare-bedroom now office / study room for the whole family. With teddy bears looking out of the window.
We are in the midst of what a business contact of mine stated to be a “Coronapocalypse” (thanks Vicky Fraser) which I think is a brilliant description. The world we are currently in, nearing the end of week 2 of UK shut-down is unprecedented / uncertain / unreal and damn-right scary at the moment, but here at EBS we have tried to keep our spirits up and not unduly worry, so we have had our website updated by the brilliant Amy Edwards of Creative Design Influence and hosted by the equally brilliant Frank at Enable Business.
Why update a website now? Well why not? We are already looking to the next few months, post Coronapocalypse, and the brave new world!
Please feel free to have a look around, and we would welcome any feedback you may have.
Take care, wash your hands, stay safe and stay at home.
